The restaurant was born in 1977, when a young man called Luigi decided to chance his luck and invest life-time saving, dragging his baby brother Michele and his father Raffaele into a whole new experience... After finishing sailing school at the age of 18, Luigi left his native home in S. Agnello and endured a career of ships, transporting freight all over the world. The 5 years experience, wich saw him achieve the grade of "executive naval officer", were just enough for him to put away the sum he needed. Joining financial efforts with his cousin, Luigi manages to open a restaurant called "Picco S. Angelo", located in the mountain above S. Agnello. The restaurant was successful but too far from the town centre, assuring only a few months of business during the high season. Working primarily with tour companies, Luigi manages to get enough business to scrape through 2 working seasons, while still taking a few shipping jobs to cover the winter months. The third and final summer at the "Picco", Luigi meets Alison, a 19 year old English girl from Middlesex. Story says that she pinched Luigi's buttock while serving her table, but no one will ever know the truth! Reality was that his life had drastically changed... Alison quit her job as a lab assistant in England and spent the rest of the summer with Luigi in Italy. At the end of which, Luigi & Alison said goodbye to the "Picco" and moved to England, where he spent the winter of 1976 working at a Sheraton hotel not far from Heathrow airport. It's not even a year since they met, when Luigi and Alison decide to get married, and they do so on the 19th March 1977. While the Beatles were at the end of their career, Luigi was just about to begin... The news about this great opportunity toopen a restaurant in Sorrento does not gopast him. This time he needs to borrow money from an uncle and convince all his family members and his wife that it will work...So finally, on the 18th June 1977 the gates of "Il Ristorante S. Antonino" open. Where they remain still open 30 years later. Today his 3 children Francesco, Andrea and Alexander and his nephew Raffaele continue Luigi's and Michele's experience, following the winding path of a great man. In memory of Raffaele Pane... Your nephew, Francesco Pane.
